Whenever I listen to Preoccupations my mind jumps straight to a modern version of Joy Division and early New Order. Something about Matt Flegel's voice echoing on the guitars and Scott Munro's room filling keyboards just brings out the inner synth-pop and post-punk fan in me. For the most part they're leaning on the post-punk side, but their most recent and in my opinion best album New Material has made their style more accessible as they lighten up a bit and welcome that pop aura. I particularly like the tracks "Disarray" and "Antidote", but it's only an eight track album so it'll be easy for you all to choose your own favorites. These guys are going to be playing in San Francisco at the Rickshaw Stop on May 14th so check out the album and if you like what you hear, come get preoccupied.
